The Best Friends of the Forest Movement is a community of young and action-oriented environmentalists, travelers, social entrepreneurs and artists who aim to inspire people to be advocates of forest conservation and protection.
The BFF Movement is not an exclusive membership club but a means to organize and inspire millennials to be forest advocates.
As Best Friends of the Forest (BFFs), our mission will be to conserve and protect the forests. We will do this through a series of activities, such as tree-growing, learning workshops, expression sessions, general assemblies and even exploring our focal landscapes, such as Palawan and Sierra Madre.
As we continue to face mounting challenges as a consequence of uncontrolled industrialization and development, the actions we take every day will be vital for the future of not just the forests, but also the lives that depend on it (including ours!).
The BFFs live their advocacies and share their passion for the forests every chance they get. This is reflected in all their actions – from their lifestyle, to their livelihoods and even to their hobbies. Through these passion points, they contribute to the conservation and protection of the forests, and inspire new BFFs to help support the cause.
Gideon is many things to many people. He’s a physician, medical anthropologist, lecturer, writer and environmental advocate. During his free time, Gideon Lasco pursues his hobby of mountain climbing and maintains PinoyMountaineer.com. As a true BFF at heart, he has used his many talents to raise awareness, organize projects and participate in conservation activities.
The U.P Mountaineers is a student organization from the University of the Philippines. As true BFFs, their passion for travel and adventure is only equalled by their advocacies. The U.P. Mountaineers promote responsible mountaineering as a healthy physical activity and as a means to advocate environmental awareness, particularly forest conservation and protection.
Niccolo is an artist of a different kind. His works? Furniture, wooden interiors and various other big projects. He’s a woodworker and a staunch advocate for upcycling and sustainability, opting only to use reclaimed old wood for all his works. Because of this, all his artworks are a statement in itself, serving to inspire his fellow BFFs and many others into action.
Jen is a woman in pursuit of meaningful endeavours. She’s an entrepreneur, writer, designer, marketer and above all, the chief mind behind Muni. With the goal of creating a healthy, sustainable, waste-free world, Jen aims to inspire the BFFs with the same culture of mindful living that has galvanized many others at MUNI.
